The Very UNWELCOME Guest

Posted by Saint Lover

I let the dogs out last night at 9:00 pm so they could do their business. I let them back in and Brutus and Rufus had gotten in the pond for a swim. They were soaked and came storming in the house. As soon as they ran past me at the door, it hit me like a ton of bricks… the smell! They had been in the bowels of hell and brought it with them. At first i thought they had been maced or had chemicals thrown on them by a neighbor - but NO IT WAS SKUNK!!!!!!!!!!!! I took them to the car wash and ran them through since the pet wash wasn’t open. The pet store was closed too so i have to get the skunk out stuff tomorrow… my car smells like it, they smell like it and so does my house. They got it right in the face. None of my other dogs were STUPID enough to mess with the skunk so they didn’t get it… but those boys were foaming at the mouth and sneezing up a storm. They got it good. I am sooo upset. It smells worst than CS gas.

They all went out this morning and no skunk. Brutus was very hesitant to go very far from the house and has refused to go out the rest of the day. Rufus doesn’t smell too bad today… he stunk BAD last night. But Brutus does. I picked up some Simple Solution and have it sitting on him now. He is acting like his feelings are hurt.. it is kinda funny.

My downstairs smell soooo bad. I may have to pull up my carpet from where they ran in on it. the stink is still in my nose and that is all I can smell. eek.. it smells like home perm in here.

Our friend George was such a great pal.. he came down to the carwash and helped me dry them off and give moral support, in between laughing fits. Rufus was SOO excited to see him. I think he though George was going to save him. LOL. Thanks George!

Do I think they will have learned their lessons? Doubtful. They aren’t the brightest bulbs on the tree.

For you that have never smelled skunk… it is the strongest and WORST smell ever. it makes your nose run, eyes tear and throat burn. It lingers forever and make mace seem like perfume. Decomposing animals smell like roses compared to this stench.

Well off to keep deskunking!

Meet My Pack…

Posted by Saint Lover

Hello, my name is Lora and here is my pack. We live at a dog park in central Ohio. My pack consists of 4 Labrador Retrievers and 2 Saint Bernards. Lets meet the pack.

THE LABS

Zeus is a 4 1/2 year old Black Lab who was purchased from a breeder at 8 weeks of age. He is my Alpha dog and very smart. He was such a great dog, I decided to get another one. He is considered my son’s dog. Hera, is a 6 year old Black Lab. She was picked up as a stray by the dog warden and spent about 5 months at the shelter before I found her to adopt. She is my busy body and is always on the go. She is amazingly athletic, loves to swim and fast as lightning. Apollo is a 3 year old Yellow Lab. He is Zeus’s brother. They have the same mother. I purchased him when he was 5 weeks of age. He is my cuddle bunny and a total mommies boy. He loves to go bye-bye and sleep with us. He loves to run and play with toys. Eris is a 5 1/2 year old Chocolate Lab. I have had her for just over two years. She had a rocky start to life as a breeding dog for an Amish puppy mill. She was horribly mistreated and when she had to have a c-section with her final litter, they sold her at auction for a measly $50. Luckily a rescue organization picked her up and I adopted her from them.

THE SAINTS

Brutus and Rufus are 3 year old litter mates. They came to me at 18 months old when their previous owner could no longer keep them. I never intended to keep them, I planned to adopt them through my rescue but quickly found they were very dependant on each other and had a hard time when separated. I decided it would be very difficult to adopt them together and make sure they stayed together so I kept them myself. I am so glad I did! I love them so much and they have grown on me.
