I just got back from the vets with Brutus and Zeus. Zeus had an appointment for shots so I decided to bring Brutus along just to have his paw looked at from when he broke his nail a week and a half or so.

Much to my horror and dismay the vet informed me the whole toe needs to be amputated! I about fainted. I would not agree to having this done with out a 2nd opinion and such… he cleaned it up, clipped some of the bony protrusion, shaved his paw and bandaged it. I am going back in 2 days to see how it is looking. He isnt limping but they are concerned he will develop osteo mylitis (sp) and it wont heal… blah blah blah

They say this is a difficult injury to heal… I am just devastated! He is now on 3-500mg amoxicillin 2xs a day and go back in 2 days for dressing change.

He said he has done several recently because of all the ice we had…. hmmm i argued that when the nail is completely ripped out they dont go amputating the nail.. he said sometimes they do. If that is the case, why not start with removing the nail, not the flippin toe.

I am just sick over this!
