After a day or two a reprieve from the heat it was back today! It was 90 and humid and the forecast is calling for more of the same all week. The dogs don’t even want to go outside unless it is straight to the pond for a cooling dip. They all love the pond and most people don’t realize that Saints are really good swimmers and love the water.
My friend Laura went out of town for the night so her 4 dogs plus a foster came to stay for the night. My dogs absolutely adore her dogs. She has 2 greyhounds (babe & gabby), an Itallian greyhound (zoe) and her chi/doxie mix (buckeye). Her newest foster greyhound (blaze) is getting on with everyone very well. He is very laid back and the boys seem to like him. Of course EVERYONE went straight out to the pond since it i s so hot, again today.
It is so hysterical to see Brutus and buckeye play. Brutus weighs 165 pounds and Buckeye only weighs 8 pounds. They play bow and chase each other. I’m going to try and get some pictures of the group and post them tomorrow.
Right now everyone is laying around napping and being lazy. Its amazing how calm 11 dogs can be…
Last night Rufus snagged a baby birdie out of the tree next to the deck. Unfortunately he didn’t fair too well. And Rufus slobbered him to death. Hera stole the birdie from Rufus and Brutus and ran off with it…. and Rufus ran after her for his prize…. she dropped it and Eris picked it up and ran it into the house. EWWWWWE!!!!
I was so sad they did that. Poor little birdie got a burial this morning.
Brutus and Rufus visited the nursing home on Monday. Zach and I took them for a visit. It was really hot in the building so they didn’t want to stay long. I think Rufus does alot better and is more interested in the residents when Brutus isn’t there. He seems to be very concerned where his brother is the whole time and isn’t as attentive. Brutus likes the attention and doesn’t seem to care if Rufus is there or not.
They love seeing Babe and Gaby at there too. Laura brings them and the boys just adore them.
We may try to visit this afternoon if it isn’t too hot.
The past 2 days have been sooo hot. It was 89 yesterday and 90 the day before. It is supposed to be 86 today. I cant remember it being this hot so early. The dogs are not liking it one bit and don’t want to go out. Hera got in the pond at 4 am this morning and swam. She didn’t want to get out. Brutus and Rufus were both in the pond yesterday too. I let them out and Rufus crawled under the deck to get cool as soon as he got out of the pond… I guess I didn’t let him back in fast enough.. lol.
Looks like we may get some relief over the weekend. It should get down into the lower 80’s with some showers. The dogs will be very happy with that!
Brutus and Rufus took a trip to the pet wash yesterday and got baths. They were so good about getting in the tub and getting washed off. They look and smell so pretty now!!
I love this new place too. They have super high powered wash and it cleans them great! I got both of them done for $8.00 and it took me 12 minutes total. Whoo hoo!
I submitted Brutus and Rufus to be dog of the month on my forum Big Dogs Porch. They won for May - whoo hoo. They have their picture on the forum as the banner and a big giant picture with their story on the homepage. It will be displayed for the entire month of May. They are the first pair of dogs to be dog of the month on the forum. I couldn’t just nominate one of them and not the other. I am so glad they were chosen together. Their old mommy Chris would be so proud to see them there.
Today is Eris’s 6th birthday. She is getting older, I can’t belive how time has flown by. She has been here for almost 3 years now. Tonight we will be going to get her a treat from Petsmart and to visit her old rescuer. I need to get some pictures of her in her birthday hat and post them too.
With the strange weather patterns this year the ticks are horrible! They started to come out a couple of weeks ago - then we had the cold snap and they disappeared. I presumed died.. but I was WRONG!
They are everywhere! We put frontline on the dogs so hopefully they will be OK… but we are finding them everywhere. One of the bad thing about having all the trees here. I am trying to figure out now if there is something I can spray around the house (in and out) to try and keep them at bay.
