More Pictures

Posted by Saint Lover

I talked to Brutus and Rufus’s old mom tonight. She says she found a bunch of pictures of the boys that she is going to send me. I am sooo excited. I only have 5 pictures of them as puppies. I absolutely cherish these pictures! Here are 3 of them.

She says she will bring them to me the next time she makes it up this way. I will be so excited to see them. They were just the cutest little guys ever!

They’re Back

Posted by Saint Lover

Phoebe, Violet and Stella are back. They will be here for 11 days. Stella the pug has been running in circles trying to get the other dogs to play. She is going from dog to dog begging them to play with her. It is hysterical. Brutus of course is more than happy to accommodate her. I sat here watching them, giggling my butt off.

I have been shopping for the dogs a few times in the past few days and bought them some goodies. I have found some really good deals on some stuffy toys, leashes a 2.5 gallon treat jug (by snapware – I think I am going to pick them up another one too) I paid $5 for it and it retails for $13.99! Whoo hoo deal time. Mine has an orange lid. Apollo has found a new favorite I will put it away in the toy box and he will dig it out and bring it to me every morning and every time I leave, no matter how short I am away, wagging his tail flaring out his ears. It is soo funny! I will have to get a picture of him with it. It is a tenis ball that has a racoon tail attached to it. The ball has jingles inside and the tail has a squeaker at the end. (I bought 6 of them)
Apollo’s Favorite “baby”
He has the raccoon one – need to find the fox one…. oooh

Play Date

Posted by Saint Lover

Wednesday night we hosted a play date at the house. I felt so bad for Hershey’s parents because her birthday party had to be canceled due to the rain, that I had a few dogs over to play. There were a total of 11 dogs playing (minus my saints – because of the puppy) The three greyhounds were amazing! They ran and ran and were soo fast. Everyone had a great time and were wiped out afterwards. I am so bummed I couldn’t find batteries for my camera so there are no pix to post.

It is going to rain today. The skies have already started to cloud up and the radar shows a large storm moving in from Indiana. It will be nice to get some much needed rain. Hopefully it will save the grass???? I had so much fun the other night that I am thinking about having another play date on Sunday night if the weather holds out. And I promise there will be pictures!

Today is going to be a lazy day. We went out and played this morning and the dogs are exhausted and sleeping everywhere. Phoebe, Violet and Stella will be back tomorrow for 11 days while their owners go to California for another family reunion. Then they will be making the long trek to Wisconsin.

Party Pooper

Posted by Saint Lover

Tonight we were supposed to host a birthday party for a friend’s Chocolate Lab named Hershey. We have been all set for months. The weather has been HOT and DRY for over a month. Then about 2pm it clouded up and started to pour….. We had a ton of rain, lightning and thunder. My friend called and canceled the party. The puppers were looking forward to seeing their friends and playing in the pond.

Over the weekend we had a full house! 2 of my former foster Saints stayed with us along with their house mate pug. PLUS we had the weim brothers. They had a great time playing with the gang and I got a ton of pictures. They went home today but will be back again on Saturday. I will have them for 10 days while the family is in California for a family reunion. I am so sad that I will never see them again after that. They will be moving to Wisconsin in July. I wish them the best.

Baseball, Hot Dogs, Apple Pie & Chevrolet

Posted by Saint Lover

OK – 2 out of 4′s not bad. Baseball and hot “dog”s – Brutus went to my son’s baseball game yesterday. He behaved himself so well. Everyone was so smitten with him too. He layed on his back most of the game getting belly rubs. Good thing he was there to keep me entertained… the game was horrible! My son’s team won 36-3, after 3 innings the other team gave up. We were even missing 2 of our best players.

I may bring Apollo to the game tomorrow.

Nice Cool Morning

Posted by Saint Lover

The dogs spent the last hour outside swimming and running around the yard, chasing bunnies, birds and who knows what else. I knew Brutus and Rufus had something cornered, I could hear their incessant barking. It is like a broken recored over and over and over again. Rufus will bark at something until he actually looses his voice. Whoever said they were the smartest tools in the shed was sorely mistaken.. lol!

With the hot days we have had over the past month, the past two mornings have been just glorious. Right now it is 63F (for you UK readers – 17C) and sunny. It is just starting to warm up for another hot day. The dogs are just getting themselves comfy (sprawling out on pillows and the couches) for their morning nap and should sleep for a few hours after their exhausting morning romps. Of course Apollo, Hera, Brutus and Rufus are wet from swimming… uggg!

Rufus’s eye is looking much better. Thank you for all the well-wishes! It is still a bit swollen but not as bad and has scabbed over with no ickiness. Thank goodness for the opthalmologic teramyacin ointment!!!

We have no major plans for today and Brutus may go to the nursing tonight with his pals Gaby or Babe. He needs a bath first though… he is stinky from the pond. YUCK POND WATER! But they enjoy swimming so much that it is worth the smell.

Greyhound event

Posted by Saint Lover

Last night I went to the Team Greyhound Rescue part at a dog park with my friend Laura. I took a few pix of the event. It was all greyhounds….. They are quite amazing to watch run around together.

I won a couple of amazing silent auction items which I am quite pleased with. Got them home and the dogs love them!

My hubby left the back door open when he left and the dogs were running in and out of the house when I got there. When Laura dropped me off, Brutus and Rufus were going nuts at the gate because the greyhounds were in the car. Rufus managed to get himself injured. One of the other dogs bit him on his eye. It is swollen today :( and raw, but no puncture wounds. whew!

Now pix of the greyhounds!

THEY’RE OFF!!!

The Berner

Posted by Saint Lover

I have thought alot about the Berner girl and have made the decision that there isn’t anything more I can do for her but keep my fingers crossed. I forwarded her information onto a really great Berner lady who will know just what to do with her. She has lots of Berner contacts through out the country and if she cant do anything, then no one can.

I cant save them all and sometimes I need to be reminded I am not the patron saint of lost causes. My own pack and family must take precedence. My responsibility is to them and them alone. I am pleased with how things are here and want to keep things status quo no matter how heartless that makes me seem… I have done more than my fair share for other peoples discards for years.

What to do??

Posted by Saint Lover

Today we will say goodbye to Bergan. His dad is coming to pick him up around 10am today. I am sure he will be happy to see him. Bergan has the stamina of an ox. He is still on the go 24/7 – I don’t think he ever sleeps. All he wants to do is bee bop around and play. My poor babies are just exhausted – they are going to sleep for a week when he goes.

The weather has really changed in the past 48 hours. Late on Saturday a storm blew in and it cooled down a bit when it rained. Then today it only got into the mid 70′s and right now it is 63! We got a bit of rain this evening. The dogs were thrilled to be able to play outside with out roasting. They ran around and explored all over the yard and I had to eventually call them back in. I think they were pretty tired of being cooped up the house and blew off some steam outside.

I got a call from a shelter today wanting to know if I could help them out with a Bernese Mountain Dog they have. She is spayed, AKC registered and 1 1/2 years old. Problem is she has a bad case of hip dysplasia and will require replacement surgery. I don’t really know what to do. I have sent out some emails to other rescuer friends that I know and posted on a giant breed dog forum. I have always wanted a Berner but I don’t have the $$ for her medical needs right now. Also my pack is very well established at 6. 6 really is my max! I have not had any luck with a 7th dog. Fostering is one thing, but it really upsets the balance here to have a permanent 7th dog. Things are really great and stable right now and have been since Achilles has been gone. I don’t want to disrupt things again, but I also don’t want this girl to be PTS.

I am really worried about her. I don’t really know what to do.

Spag and chicken for dinner… yummm

Posted by Saint Lover

Last night I made and ENTIRE box of spaghetti for dinner and boiled up chicken brats (trust me they are actually good). There was a ton of left overs so the dogs had spag and chicken on their dog food… They LOVED it… Rufus had spag sauce all over his mouth and chest… I swear he is a big “pigpen” (you know the character from Charlie Brown).

Does this dog ever sleep?

Posted by Saint Lover

I went to bed early last night with a sore throat. Brutus, Rufus and Apollo came to bed with me to hide from Bergan. Brutus’s new thing is to lay right infront of this industrial fan we have and fall asleep. His hair blows really hard and he seems to really enjoy it. I have to get a pic of it.

I shut the door and left him downstairs with the O/H. Poor Hera hid from him in her crate – she was soooo tired. I got some sleep, but when the O/H came to bed, he left the door open and Bergan found his way in. He woke me up at 5 am whining as a big thunder storm was going through. The thunder must have been making him nervous. He was under the bed – directly under me of course.. lol [my cable is out from the storm too!]

So I got up with them and he was sooo excited as soon as the other dogs started to stir and he was jumping on them and begging them to play. DOES THAT DOG EVER SLEEP????? lol Last time he was here he was the same way, but there was a lab pup that was insane as well so they played the whole time. They managed to knock over my Christmas tree and it didn’t even phase them. I told his owner then they needed another dog for him to play with. I don’t think he has seen other dogs since the last time he was here and he is just so happy to play he can hardly stand himself.

OMG!!! I heard silence…. and just looked down and he is laying there glassy eyed… almost asleep… my plan has worked… i wore him out :does happy dance: (See Rachael.. I waited him out and won… lol)

Bergan….

Posted by Saint Lover

Well Bergan spent his first night here and decided he did not want to sleep. He thought it would be better fun to play all night long. When he couldn’t stir the other dogs to play with him he decided he would play by himself… So I was woken up at 4am by him tossing a squeaky toy in the air and banging up against the bed. So I put him outside with Hera to play and play he did. Hera tried to lay down in the grass and go back to sleep but Bergan was having no part in that…. it was playtime!

So now he starting to slow down a bit and even laid on the couch for a bit… but the second a dog moves… he is right there… he has a toy right now tossing it around and chewing/squeaking it.

I sure hope he is tried tonight and will sleep….. I am exhausted.

Petsmart

Posted by Saint Lover

Brutus and I ran some errands today and we ended up at Petsmart for some treats. Brutus had to stop and see everyone and say “HELLO” – I swear he knows NO strangers. There were a bunch of kids there today and they just adored him. I ran into a lady that had a female saint (unfortunately she didn’t have her there) who is 2 years old and her kids were just swooning over Brutus.

Brutus snarled at a GSD puppy in a buggy. I was so embarrassed. The pup was hanging out of the cart and nipped at Brutie’s nose… He was NOT impressed… The lady was like “oooh those sharp little puppy teeth” …. hmmmmm not smart!

It’s so hot here – part 3!

Posted by Saint Lover

Ok this weather is getting rediculous! It topped out at 95 oday when we drove past the Wallgreens digital sign. We did get a bit of a reprieve with a sudden downpour – the temp dropped to 87… As soon as it stopped raining the temp went right back up and now it is just a supper muggy 95!!!

The poor dogs are laying ontop of the A/C vents and Rufus refused to go outside earlier. Good thing he has a super sized bladder and can hold it forever…

No relief in sight. This is really sad for Ohio! Normally we dont hit these temps til July and then for only a week or two. I cant imagine what the summer is going to hold for us.

On a lighter note. We have a friend’s dog staying with us for the next 4 days. Bergan the Husky is coming to stay. Bergan is a lovely boy and my pack love him!
