I have been pretty bad about keeping my blog updated and checking in on everyone else’s blog. I have been pretty busy with my son’s golf and the dogs. Lets see what I can update on.
Heidi had an appointment with a prospective family last Tuesday. They seemed to like her and she seemed to like them but she was still pretty concerned about what I was doing and not what they were doing. I did tell them that their expectations were a bit high for a rescue. They wanted to call the breeder and see her parents (I have her papers and purchase certificate - they were turned in with her, but that is really rare. Anyone who that is that concerned needs to get a dog from a reputable breeder as they do not understand the principle of rescue). The man was going to have surgery the next day they said they would call me on Thursday to let me know what they decided. When I walked out I told them to just be honest with me and there would be no hard feelings. My main concern was for Heidi’s wellbeing and if it wasn’t a good fit for them, it certainly wouldn’t be for Heidi either. I sent them a nice email on Thursday morning wishing her husband a speedy recovery and thanking them for meeting with us. Well, not too much time passed before I got a short one line response from the woman. She says, they are not ready to get another dog and thanks.
Here is where it gets good… Sunday I went up to Petsmart for food and treats for the dogs. Guess who I see in line with an armload of dog toys. The husband sees me and says hi, the wife turns bright red and tries to shy away. Thats right…. busted - liar liar pants on fire! The night they met Heidi, they went to Zanesville to look at a litter of 8 week old Saint puppies. Well they bought one. That was 2 days BEFORE she sent me the email that they weren’t ready. He gabs on some more and I just tune them out… I was sooo irritated. Not that they didn’t want Heidi (cuz they don’t deserve her) but that she felt she had to lie that way about it. What is the point. How hard is it to just say we decided on getting a younger pup or she just wasn’t right for them.
Later that night I got an email and call from an older couple that have had several saints over the years. They are right around 60 and have no kids, grandkids at home, no other dogs and are very saint savvy. It seemed like a very good possibility. They wanted to come by and visit her on their way to Pennsylvania for vacation. I was somewhat apprehensive that they would even make it because of her luck up until then. Well they came and fell in love with her. They asked me to keep her for 2 weeks while they were on vacation. I am not sure exactly when they will be coming for her but they are going to call and we will set up a meeting half way between my house and theirs. They live about 100 miles south of here. A friend of mine from another rescue did the home visit (she lives down that way) and gave them the ok before they even met Heidi.
So now she is just biding her time here playing with Hera, waiting for her new family to get her. They had a new name picked out for her and I have been trying to get her used to it. Daffodil…. hahahaha (I’ll keep you posted)
