Bush’s Baked Beans are a NO-NO!

Posted by Saint Lover

Today has not been a very good day. I made a HUGE mistake last night and gave the dogs a big time No-NO with their dinners. I BBQ’d burgers, made mac & cheese and of course Bush’s Baked Beans from hell! There was an extra burger so i split it into 6 pieces and the dogs each got a bite. There were extra beans too.. lots of them. So I thought I’d give the puppers a little treat in honor of Eris’s b-day, HUGE mistake. Almost instantly Hera started farting. I giggled and thought to myself:

beans beans, they’re good for your heart
the more you eat, the more you fart
the more you fart, the better you’ll feel
so let’s eat beans for every meal

Ha Ha until 4:30 am! I awoke from a dead sleep to a horrible stench. Apollo had gotten sick in the bathroom and boy did it stink. Our bathroom has the toilet off to the side in a separate little room and the main part of the bath is open where the sinks, shower and big tub are. Apollo layed a big giant loaf next to the toilet on the linoleoum (whew thanks) and then a second soupy pile smack dab in the middle of the open part on the carpet – GAG!!!!!!!!!!! I cleaned up the mess, turned on the fan and opened the window. Rufus didnt even want to back in the bedroom it smelled so bad. I went back to bed and thought that would be the end of it.

Not even close! I get up and let the girls out of their crates and Hera, the original farter, did way more than fart in her crate. She had the nastiest accident and covered it up with her blanket. She of course needed a bath and I needed a gas mask. She has been sick all day. She has vomited a couple of times and had the runs, but seems fine now. Poor baby girl. Apollo seems fine now too. I think I am going to go to bed early tonight and hope for a better day tomorrow. Beans are now on the short list of things the dogs absolutely will never have again!

Oh that’s awful. I will make sure Peanut never eats those. He has gas enough as it is. I don’t need the poop problem too.

Whoops. Thanks for the warning. You poor guys with all the exploding poopies and pukers.

Poor dogs! I hope they get well soon! It’s sad that they get so sick after eating all the food they LOVE. My golden retriever, Amigo, will do anything for pizza. He just swallows a whole piece in one go. I don’t knwo how he can enjoy it, without chewing it. :!:

I know dog farts all too well — Lena’s farts can bring tears to your eyes. Hopefully all tummies are at peace now that the explosions are over

Hahaha! I know it wasn’t funny at the time, but it’s funny to hear because I KNOW what it’s like to have to clean up a mess in the middle of the night. Or, when you’re about to head out the door to something important. I do hope the dogs’ tummies are feeling better though.

I’m thinking you are right Maggie and Mitch… No more baked beans EVER!

  11. Saint LoverNo Gravatar

If Peanut has gas “issues” already, I would DEFINITELY stay away from the beans. Trust me it was NOT pretty!

  12. Saint LoverNo Gravatar

You’re welcome for the warning Mango… Molosser-sized soupy turds are no joke! They are feeling better. Whew!

  13. Saint LoverNo Gravatar

I totally know what you mean Mayra.. mine just gobble down food. It is funny to watch them chew some things you would never expect, like licorice. Brutus will chew and gum a red vine to death lol.

Speaking of pizza, the dogs had pizza crusts with their dinners. YUMMMMM

Echo, I’m pretty sure you’d like beans… they just won’t like you back ;)

OOOH Nanjo – tear-farts… those are the worst. Zeus gets those. Not the light airy ones that Apollo and the saints get. He can clear a room when he’s gassy.

BTW – have fun camping with Lena :)

  16. Saint LoverNo Gravatar

Thanks for the heads up Kaos. No Broccoli – we are making a list! lol

  17. Saint LoverNo Gravatar

Thanks Amiga.. things are “shaping up” in the poo department ;)

I think it’s a right of passage Lindsay… they say that you aren’t truly a parent until you have two kids… well, you aren’t truly a dog owner until you have a 4am poo fest!

I’ve never given the furries beans.. although I thought they were ok… maybe they were just too rich with the sauce etc..

I know they do a number on me!
Hope the kids are feeling better soon.

I thought beans were ok too… They get green beans from time to time with no problems. I think you’re right, it must have been that rich sauce combined with the beans.

shhhhhh, but they do a number on me too

I think the “bean poops” have ended. I found the last remnants of Beans (actual beans) in Brutie’s poop yesterday morning – ewe!

I can laugh about it now Abby, but I sure wasn’t smiling picking up poop and puke piles…YUCK!

Luckily they are about as back to normal as they get for there being 6. No farts, squits or yurps in 24 hrs so I think we are in the clear :) Thanks

My dog just ate left over Bush’s baked beans, a cup or so, by mistake. She is a 10 year old shepherd/lab mix. Do you think that she will get sick and is there anything I can do?

  24. Saint LoverNo Gravatar

Your dog will be fine after a serious bout of the runs. Best to feed him boiled rice and chicken for a day to let his stomach settle. Best of luck.

WWWOOOOWWW!!!!!!!! I would have never thunk it!…and here I was thinking that I was doing somethin good by given my doggie a little baked beans with his food. I figured since it had ground beef in it and it’s a good source of protein that it was alright…well now that I think about it, it’s a good source of fiber too. I’m so glad nothing happened. I’ll make sure to never do that again. I feel so bad for those poor dogs though, they probably didn’t know what hit ‘em.
