The Furminator
I finally broke down last week and ordered myself a Furminator. I have seen them in stores and heard countless accounts of how “wonderful” they are but have never wanted to shell out the $60 for one. I mean for $60 that thing better make my dogs’s farts smell like roses, right? Someone on the Big Dog’s Porch suggested Ebay. Ebay, now why didn’t I think of that? There’s all sorts of deals on Ebay – I found the Large Yellow Furminator for $29.95 plus shipping at Value Pets Supplies.
It came in the mail yesterday and OMG is it great! I had one of those imitation ones from Bamboo and while it does a “Semi-OK” job, It is NO furminator let me tell you! I spent 90 minutes brushing Brutus with it last night and look at the pile of hair that came off him. I think these pictures say it all!
That pile is 24 inches high, 36 inches wide and 40 inches long! He’s almost bald now..lol I didnt take a picture of Rufus’s pile, but it was just as high and just as wide! I could have propagated a litter of puppies with all that hair. I even brush them regularly! They should be very happy this summer with all that undercoat gone. It certainly is going to cut down on the shedding in the house.
We give the Furminator

Holly molly that’s a lot of hair — Brutus must be chilly now after that brushing.

Pshew! That is a LOT of hair!!
I actually brought one of these amazing brushes home last night for our cats! Man they really do work!! I brushed 3 out of 4 cats (Miss Girl hid) and we had huge piles of hair too! (Not as much as you though!)

Holly Mother of Dog!!! That is a LOT of hair…Brutus, you must be soooo bald right now. My momym won’t dare to use the furminator on us coz she doesn’t want us to lose all our loverly fur. I’m shedding badly right now & so bald too. What does that furminator do anyway?
Love licks,

nanjo they still have plenty! It only takes out the dead under coat. He feels so soft and lush now.
Lindsay, tomorrow is Eris’s bday – I’ll have a tribute to her and the other labs so peek back in
Amber it would be perfect for you guys since it is so hot there. I TOTALLY recommend it! I am sooo impressed. I brushed them out first with an undercoat rake and used a dematting comb on their pants just to make sure they had no mats – I would take care of that first. But it just slides the dead undercoat right off. It doesn’t pull any of the live hairs and they loved it. You have to be a little gentle on the legs because they are boney but it even got a heck of a lot of short hairs off there. It just glides through the fur and the dead hair is what comes off.
They are sooo much softer, smoother and comfortable. You can’t “see” any difference. You just dont end up with a handful of hair after petting.
Thanks for stopping by Tammy!
You’re right that IS alot of hair! I couldn’t believe my eyes when I was finished… It just kept coming!
I bet you pulled alot off your cat too! They are truly amazing and one of the best gadgets I have ever bought for my dogs! Well worth the $30 thats for sure!
Hope to see you around.
Oh my mom loves the furminator. She uses it on Flash and our cat all the time. Lucky for me I don’t have enough hair.

Lucky you that you have a short summer coat, but don’t you get cold in the winter?
All I can say is Good God!…lol I have no idea what a furminator is but I sure can tell what it does…how often would you be reauired to use it?

Hey Boys! You sure are cuties. I did the exact thing and love the furminator. It takes an insane amount of fur off of the beast. But it also takes off moles, so be careful.
Sophie has a lovely cauliflower mole that is about half the size it once was. Oops. At least I think that’s what happened. Sophie of course, did not even seem to notice and I didn’t until I found the dried blood caked in her fur later on. These dogs are so stoic sometimes.
Sophie sends giant smoochies to your giant boys.
Hi,
I found your blog from ThatMutt.com. Thanks for the tip about this special brush. I didn’t know about it! It would be great for my golden retriever.

Wow I’m glad it works so well for you! Mine doesn’t work too well on the smooth collies… but I just ordered a King Grooming tool that I tried last weekend, I hope it works better on my pups!

Amazing! That is a ton of hair, man!
Abbey.. I looked online to see if I could find how often you’d need to use it and I couldn’t really find anything definite. Most people say to run it over their coat once a week for maintenance.
Thanks for the tip Sophie. I was very careful on their legs, elbow, knees and arms after I saw what happened to Peanuts mom! OUCH! I certainly don’t want that to happen to the boys!
Thanks for stopping by Myra – I’m glad you found us! The Furminator would certainly be good for your golden. It worked great on my labs too.
Stop by and see us again sometime
Mags and Mitch, nope I dont knit. But I bet I could have a ton of yarn spun with that much hair. Maybe when they blow their coats again I will have found someone to spin it into yarn and someone can do something with it.
Cyn, my friend has the cat one and it didn’t work well for her either. Strange, but it happens. I hope your new grooming tool works well. I am very interested to hearing about it.
Mango, I think I pulled enough hair off the two of them to make, well, you.. hahahah
Thanks for stopping by again!
I’m going to the pet shop today to see if they have it. I live in Belgium, so I’m not sure. If they don’t have it I’ll have to order it. Anything to prevent all the shedding! I’m a slave of the vacuum! LOL

Mayra, good luck finding one. There are lots of good petshops on line that sell them if you can’t get one. It’s worth EVERY single penny or in your case, Euro.
Let me know if you end up getting one.
It is pretty amazing Vicki! I am so glad I finally broke down on a whim and bought it. I am still in shock. The boys coats feel so much healthier and look alot better.
I bet they work great on Border Collies too.
Wow that dog must have been hot before! haha I’ve recently found another product that i think works great. Its called Fur-Zoff. Its made of 90% reclyed materials and lasts forever for about $10. It works so well on all the fabrics in my house. You can find it at http://www.furzoff.net. Hope this helps
