Ultimate Air Dogs Bristol

Posted by Saint Lover

We’re back!!!!  We (hubby, son and dogs) had a WONDERFUL time!!!  Got home from Bristol this morning very early – omg what a long drive. Ultimate Air Dogs is a great time! I can not tell you how great of a Job Milt does with this organization.  We are so impressed.

I wasn’t able to get many pictures like I had hoped due to the break neck pace of the actual jumps.  I also discovered that my husband is a terrible photographer!  I guess there is a little more to taking pics than just point and shoot.. lol  He took most of them and I got a few of them jumping in practice rounds that were a little better.

We had “splashes” at 1:30 3:00 4:30 6:00 and 7:30.  Both dogs jumped off the dog right off the bat.  I was shocked!  No coaxing or anything they went right in.  In fact I took Apollo up on the dock to show him and he jumped in still on his lead and about pulled me in.  I was able to practice with them in between splashes and Hera quickly got the hang of it.   She was running and leaping in no time.  Apollo, well he’s not too bright.  He would get all excited and run to the end of the dock full speed, slam on the breaks and then launch himself… uggg.  Even with that he had a couple of jumps over 9 feet.  He did one good running jump and hit 13 feet but it was only the one.  I think next time I need to bring a toy with a little higher value than the kong wubba.  It may get him more excited about jumping with out hesitating.  This may come with experience too.  He totally exceeded my expectations for his first time so I am very pleased!

Dont mind me in the background.. it was a rough trip.. lol

I took this one

Hera was getting around 15 feet.  Pretty impressive for an old gal’s first time! Zach handling Hera

We met a lot of really great people and had a wonderful time. One of the exciting people we met was Sarah Simone and Forest Gumpy. Sarah is 14 and from Ontario, Canada (she got along great with my son).  She handles a JRT that is holds the record for little dog dock jumping!!!  She was recently on the Letterman show with Gumpy.  Here’s the Clip -

The only thing I was disappointed with was Apollo’s behavior on the leash.  I was absolutely shocked he NEVER acts like that.  He did NOT like the other dogs coming around him when he was on his leash. Lunging, growling and acting like a general fool! Grrr – but as soon as I let him off he was perfectly fine.  So after a few hours the two were let loose and I just kept a really close eye on them so they wouldnt run off.  They ran around and played ball and chase and bitey face with some of he other dogs that were good off leash and had a blast! The dogs were absolutely WORN out!  Apollo crashed between the 6:00 & 7:30 splashes.  Now that’s some serious exhaustion!

I cant wait to go to Van Wert next weekend!

Edited to add – we made it to the Tricities newspaper too!

HI Teija, Its nice to see you back again! How have your saints been?

  13. TwoBarkingDogsNo Gravatar

Wow! Thanks for the great photos and congrats on such a great day, too. Of my two labs, Clover would swim the English channel, but never jump in to do it. And Cosmo would have to be thrown in the water if he was going in at all. LOL.

These pictures are great! By the way, Biggie is like that on leash or in the car too – we’re working on it but he’s crazy and sounds ridiculously aggressive, and then off the leash he “adopts” everyone to guard.

Thanks Peanut. We had a blast. I honestly didn’t think Apollo would jump in at first either. You never know, Peanut may surprise you

I dont know what Apollo’s deal was!

Thanks Bev… I added another short video and we made it to the newspaper too! It was sooo fun. I cant wait til Bark Park!

  18. Saint LoverNo Gravatar

Hi Jan, thanks for the comment. I don’t know if they know or if they are like spoiled kids now and just expect to do fun things… lol (too bad there wasn’t a picture of their fearless and exhausted leader in the car on the way home… wow i was beat)

  19. Saint LoverNo Gravatar

Hi George.. yep it was fun! My son’s friend (lives in the neighborhood) took care of the other dogs while we were gone for the whirl wind 30 hour trip. He let out B and R, Eris and Zeus and kept them company. It was the first time all 3 of us have traveled together in 4 years. Normally we do separate vacations because of the dogs.

  20. Saint LoverNo Gravatar

LOL Kaos. We are lucky there are so many fun things to do around here.

  21. Saint LoverNo Gravatar

Thanks Baylor. I dont think we will ever make it to the ranks of TV, but we sure had a good time. Its a wonderful family event.

  22. Saint LoverNo Gravatar

We sure did Christy. I can’t wait to go again!

  23. Saint LoverNo Gravatar

 Thanks… I dont know what wild hair Apollo had up his butt.. he never acts foolish like that.

  24. Saint LoverNo Gravatar

You never know Barking…. They might surprise you! I didnt really expect Apollo to jump the first time either. He surprised me big time. He is a little timid when trying new things and then once he figures it out goes for it with gusto.

  25. Saint LoverNo Gravatar

I think it is frustrating for them Biggie… They want to greet and meet the other dogs and read their pee-mail and when the natural greeting process is disrupted it becomes upsetting and they dont know how to properly channel their frustration. Apollo will fence fight too   Drive me nuts. And he puts on a big show too. As soon as the gate is opened… he is every dog’s best buddie. Drives me nuts. I guess its like dangling a box of Godiva chocolates in front me me just out of reach… i want them bad.. but cant get them – I’d be mad too.. lol

Good luck working with Biggies issues on the lead. It is something that will improve as he matures and is worked with. Aren’t big dogs fun…

Oh Amiga… I am SOOO proud! It was such a great time for all of us. Branching out and trying new things with the dogs is always so rewarding for us and for them. I wish more people were able to enjoy their dogs more. It makes me sad thinking of all the ones sitting in shelters and tied up behind people’s houses when mine are so spoiled. But my whole philosophy is “why have them if you wont enjoy them”.

Looks and sounds like you all had a wonderful time! I hope your trip to Van Wert is just as much fun! :-)

Oh Im green with envy…how many cool places do you get to go with your dogs…we have nothing like that here…I think it would be great for Chels…not so much the pool jumping, just the socialising with other dogs… great airborn shots..
