Mastering Leadership - part 1
Happy Friday! Not much has been going on around our house these days. The weather has been so cold, gloomy and icky that we haven’t been out much. Today is actually very sunny and cold, but I have come down with a cold so I wont be able to enjoy the day at the park. Sadly, I have been in bed most of the past two days. While I was in bed, I caught up on all my blog reading and even found a new rss reader for Mozilla to organize all my posts. It uses google reader and twitter and i really like it. Its called Feedly.
I have also been watching Cesar Milan Mastering Leadership DVD set. What a fabulous gift idea for your favorite Dog lovers! It is available online and in stores for $49.99
Cesar Milan “the Dog Whisperer” is America’s favorite and most respected dog rehibilitators. His show, the Dog Whisperer is on the National Geographic Channel almost daily. He is author to several books (one of which, Cesar’s Way, I am reading) and has helped a long list of difficult dogs and their owners. His techniques are based on a common sense approach to dog communication. He teaches people to relate to their dogs on the dogs level, through their psychology.
Volume 1: People Training for Dogs
Cesar shares his wisdom and wit from a lifetime of working with dogs. He discusses the following topics with a small group of people in round table conference. I felt like I was part of the discussion and really connected with alot of what Cesar was saying. This certainly was my favorite DVD of the set.
- The basics of dog behavior
- Understanding the nature of the pack
- Energy and body language
- Giving rules, setting boundaries and limitations
- Why the walk is important
- Cesar’s fulfillment formula
- Bonus Features, including feeding time with Cesar’s pack
I have tried Cesar’s suggestions when feeding my pack, and I am amazed at the results. My attitude, actions and energy, before and during, the dogs’ feeding time have a remarkable impact on my dogs’ feeding behaviors. Before learning and executing new techniques, several of my dogs became too excited to conduct themselves properly during meal time. Now, the dogs are more docile and submission creating a better overall situation. A few minor tweaks to my energy has made all the difference in our world and theirs.

Check back tomorrow for part 2 - Becoming a Pack Leader
I am pleased to be giving aways a complete dvd set to one of my lucky readers on December 5th, just in time for the holidays. Cesar is amazing and does some great work with dogs I would be to afraid to go near.
woohoo, count me in!
Biggie’s breeder always fed the pups in their crates and made them sit for their dinner from the time they were 7 weeks old. It is just one of the many things I’m thankful our breeder did to get the pups off on the right paw. It has been such a great foundation for teaching Biggie self control and good manners.

We missed you at the dog park today ! Our Mom thought it was very cold and windy but we loved it. We managed to stay out of the pond even though it looked so inviting with a thin layer of ice on it! We didn’t think Mom had it in her to be drying two big Newfs in icy temperatures !
Hope you are feeling better and we missed you guys !

Caesar Millan is truly amazing. I’ve read his first two books and have his third on deck. It’s really true how changing your energy makes a huge difference in your pack. My dogs are so much happier now that they understand our pack better!

The hubs and I watched a lot of the Dog Whisperer before we got our Golden. His techniques are great, and we’ve used almost all of them in our dog-rearing. Anytime anyone discusses a problem with their dogs with me, I always refer to techniques the DW recommends.

awwwww
looks like he enjoyed it!

Well, I’m in the minority here! I don’t like Cesar much. Well, I only watched his early DVDs and I didn’t like them. I hear he’s actually maybe using treats now, which is good. I much much much prefer Victoria Stillwell of It’s Me or the Dog. She is amazing with dogs and people and I catch her show all the time.
Victoria, also, is a very strong leader and dogs respect her. I just like her techniques better. The videos of Cesar that I watched used a lot of flooding to get the dogs over things. Victoria uses desensitization, which I think is more gentle on the dogs.

Oooo and, I love feedly! It’s amazing! I maybe will be able to keep up with my favorite blogs now.

Oh, hope you’re feeling better soon! And I’m going to have to check out Feedly!
I am also not much of a fan of Cesar. Some of his videos are quite shocking to me. I’m more of a positive reinforcement trainer, and I agree with Cynthia Blue - I quite like Victoria Stillwell. I wish that Patricia McConnell had a tv show, she’s my doggy guide!
Poor Saints, having to stay home on a sunny day! And the Greeks (that’s how I always think of them, LOL!), too!
Dannan & The Girls last blog post..Math is boring
Wrooo, Dannan here! I like the positive reinforcement method myself, because I get TREATS! BOL!
Thank you so much for your offer to photoshop a holiday card for us! That is such a kind and generous offer. The Girl is pretty clueless when it comes to editing software, so she stole a picture from photofunia for our card. The online version of the card looks a little simple, but Girlie says that’s what her crafting skills are anyway! Wrooooo!

I’d love to hear Cesar’s suggestions for feeding a pack, especially since I’ve no idea how many dogs we’ll end up with!
Right now we’ve got 13 of them… Jessica (aka PatchworkGirl)

I’m a big fan of Cesar Millan. I don’t think I’ve disagreed with any of his methods. Although, I see nothing wrong with using more treats. The thing is, Cesar gets results without treats so it’s not necessary for him. I guess the only thing I have against him is the average dog owner won’t follow through with his techniques. People tend to give up very quickly, especially when a dog has any kind of “issue.”I think anyone can learn how to be a pack leader, but not everyone gets it and not everyone is willing to put in the work and effort.
i love to watch cesar imitate dogs.. you know when he extends his neck & tweaks his head

i absolutely LOVE looking at your photos.. the air dog photos .. brutus & rufus..
your son took some beautiful photos

Cesear has some ok ideas but most of the time he is a little over the top for me. Positive reinforcement training is a much longer lasting stable technique in my opinion.
