Marley & Me - the Movie

Posted by Saint Lover

I was very unsure whether or not I wanted to see the movie Marley and Me.  After all, I read the book. I knew what was coming and well, the movie did not skimp on Marley’s “Golden Years” and ultimate passing.  I was prepared though and brought in a big wad of paper napkins to dry my tears.  If you go an watch it, make sure you have a decent supply yourself…  there wasn’t a dry eye in the theater.  I don’t recommend this movie for young children.

Doesn’t Marley look like my Apollo??? Here’s one of my favorite puppy pix of him.

I was very surprised at the profound feelings of loss and sadness the movie conjured.  It was a solemn reminder of my own dogs’ mortality.  We are entrusted with their love and companionship for such a short and precious time.  We watch them age right before our eyes as their bodies begin to give out on them well before they should.  They give us their all, every day.  It brought about intense feeling of loss for the dogs that have crossed over to the rainbow bridge.

I give pause for those that have left this earth and give a big hug to those that are still with us.

Oooh, my Mommy really wants to watch that movie. She read the book too(actually only the last part when he was dying. Silly woman!) so she already knows what to expect in the movie. She loves sad movies & she always cries like a big baby. She control her tear ducts. BOL!

I haven’t read the book, and thank you for the warning.. I do want to see the movie, and being prepared for a dog death is always a good thing for me. I hate it when the dog dies. But as long as he had a good life, that’s what counts!

I can’t wait to see the movie! I read the book also and loved it. I laughed out loud and cried horribly and it is one of my favorite books. I will definitely need a box of tissues…that’s a great idea! ;) I really love John Grogan’s writing style in the book as his ease with humor makes Marley’s antics really come to life!

Yeah, I will skip this one. I’m still trying to recover from Old Yeller and you know how many years ago that was.

I’m glad to hear more about this movie. I haven’t read the book… and based on the previews I’ve seen, I wouldn’t have expected sad. (I’m a little miffed about that actually - the previews seem misleading now that I know a little more about it!) It sure seems like a comedy based on the bits they show in previews! I will likely see it, but I’m glad to be prepared to know it is sad!!

We went last night to see the movie and I thought they did a great job making this from the book. Watching the last days of Marley took me back to out two loses over the last couple years and made me realize how precious the moments I have with Macie really are as she is nearing 15.

    Hug your dogs for me!

I liked the movie better than the book because it went quickly through the baby part. I think children would actually be bored during the movie because it focuses so much on the relationship between the couple, which I liked. Anyway, I sobbed. Marley reminds me of my old golden retriever. And yes, Apollo looks just like Marley - even cuter!

I don’t think I should let momma go to that movie. She cries every time she watches Turner and Hooch.

P.S. Nothing personal, but I think all you labradogs look like clones. I mean, Zeus could replace pee-wee and I’d never know the difference.

It would seem that Jennifer Aniston continues to give Brad Pitt a run for his money…
