Helicopter Dads and Dog Poop
I absolutely hate some parents! Especially of the Helicopter Dad variety!
This morning I was sitting at my desk gazing out my window watching people go by. It was really nice out so i had the windows cracked and the saints were going nuts at every little noise so i had to close them. Well just before I closed them the girls (8 &11) from two doors down walked by. The had their 12 week old yellow lab (ADORABLE) and chi with them walking. The lab stopped on my lawn and took a crap. They started to walk off so I went and opened the door and this transpired.
me: “girls are you going to pick that up?”
girls: “pick what up?”
me: “the poop your dog just left on my lawn, do you have a bag?”
girls: “yes we have bags, but he didnt poop”
me: “umm yes he did, right there, i watched him”
I walked back inside and watched as the little girls walked off, no poop bag in hand. I went over to the spot where the dog had pooped and as I figured, his little turds were still there. I picked up the pile and was really irritated, I contemplated going and knocking on the door to tell their mother, but though better of it. Its really petty when it comes right down to it. But dont you know, they told their dad and not 10 minutes later he showed up at my door with the puppy and in a huff.
me: “oh, dont bring the pup to the door, I’ll come out” “my big ones get a little nuts”
him: “you talked to my girls a few minutes ago”
me: “yes, the puppy pooped on my lawn and I asked them if they were going to pick it up, which they didn’t”
him: “they said they walked the lawn twice and didnt see anything”
me: “I assure you it was there (points to spot), I picked it up after they walked away. (looks at me as if I’m lying) If you dont believe me, I’ll fish it out of the trash and show you.
him: “well they had two poop bags and they said you were rude to them If you have anythign to say to them, you need to come to me. Im only 2 doors down.”
in udder disbelief at this point
me: “I absolutely was not rude to them. I have every right to address them when their dog poops on my lawn and they leave it. I considered coming and telling you, but that seemed quite petty. I have 6 dogs that I walk and pick up after. Its something that is absolutely necessary when owning a dog. I dont think you’d appreciate me leaving a pile on your lawn either. I think I startled them when I opened the door and they were embarrassed, but I assure you I was not rude (trying to muster the biggest smile I could)”
him: “they are my girls from Arizona and they are not used to walking the dogs (well, that explains it right there, you have left them behind and think you can come in and be a helicopter dad on your 6 week summer stint.. nice)
Then we have some chit chat about Arizona and the U of A and how he went to Medical school there… sorry, just got my BA there im not a fancy doctor. The pup is adorable though. So far my track records with kids in this neighborhood is not good… I hope this trend does not continue.
GOD I HATE LIVING IN THE CITY!

Ugh, that is so annoying. I’ve seen people walk off after not picking up after their dogs as well.
I’m embarrassed to NOT pick up after my dog.
I have lived in the country and now I live in the city. Believe me, there are jerks and dogs and poop in both places? You did good! Pat yourself on the back and smile.

Urgh… I hope the gals learned their lesson and will PUP (pick up poop!) the next time they walk their pup near your lawn!

Ugh, some people… I agree with Lindsay. I feel so EMBARRASSED if I don’t pick up my dogs’ poopies. Sometimes I run out of bags or sometimes or forget to bring plastic bags & I feel so weird not picking up their poopies. I have no choice but to leave the pile of poopies on the ground. Good thing my house is very near so I just go back home & pick them up after that. Phew!

First, Brutus, you did so well with the folks in the pictures below! Good work! Second, there is a woman that I see walking her Boxer in the mornings and on several occasions I have seen her let the dog go poop in someone else’s yard! HOW RUDE! She then proceeds to walk away and not pick it up….that is really the rude part. I have considered stopping the car and saying something but I haven’t yet. If it was our house, I probably would though but it is far away down the street from us. If I were her neighbor’s I certainly wouldn’t be happy. We have found it in our yard only a couple of times but we have never seen the dogs who have left it behind so we can’t prove anything.
I bet those little girls were just embarrassed.

Ugh. So sorry you had to deal with that. Hopefully the girls were embarrassed–and will know better next time.
I’m glad you were able to smooth things out with the dad. I don’t think I would have been so nice.

I would have gotten the poop out of the garbage to prove a point. You are much nicer than I! I would have
then proceeded to his lawn with one of my Saints so he could envision a poop pile! Yes, I am the alpha bitch
in my house, no doubt about it!
